NIES Launches Chinese Version of Education at a Glance 2011

On September 20, 2011, the Seminar on Education Indicators and Education Policy and the book launching of the Chinese edition of Education at a Glance 2011 OECD Indicators was held in NIES. As the research outcome of the OECD flagship program “National Education Indicators System”, Education at a Glance is one of the core publications of OECD, and its rich and up-to-date data in international education comparisons hailed it “the bible” by education researchers and policy-makers. Though Education at a Glance: 2011 is the second annual Chinese translation by NIES, it is for the first time to be globally-published in Chinese, English and French simultaneously.
Before the seminar, the top management of NIES also held a welcome meeting with the delegation. Both sides shared their satisfaction on current cooperation and looked forward to more fruitful cooperation in the future.
At the event, Ms. Barbara Ischinger, Director of OECD Education Department introduced their ongoing projects and highlighted the striking findings from the 2011 edition of Education at a Glance. Mr. Andreas Schleicher, Head of the Indicators and Analysis Division delivered a keynote speech on indicators system design, presented the global trend of education development with hard evidence and rigorous analysis. He addressed the quality and equality aspects of Chinese education based on the performance of Shanghai in PISA. From the international and comparative perspective, he pointed out both the challenges and opportunities facing Chinese education.
